Dance has been around for hundreds of years and will be around for many centuries to come. But where did dance come from? How did there get to be so many different kinds? Dance has an interesting history with many different aspects all over the world.
Circle dance was the original style of dance. It started more than 10,000 years ago and has only evolved ever since then. The circle dance was done in many circles of people, and sometimes in lines, with important elements such as bones or sticks in the middle. It was invented in the tenth century and was danced at early Christian festivals. But how did this kind of dance evolve into the dance we have today? Well in the 15th century, ballet was invented. Ballet is a classical dance that is still very popular today. It originated from Italian Renaissance courts and then spread to France and then Russia where it was refined.
From Ballet came ballroom dancing which then came to swing dancing. Modern dance was also created in order to rebel against ballet in the 20th century. Then from modern and ballet came contemporary dance, which is a fusion of many different styles of dance so that it is both tight and loose.
Hip-hop dance, however, has come fairly recently. It began during the late 60s-early 70s. It was inspired by the movements of African dancing and incorporated aspects of modern dance as well. It originates from the Bronx, New York City. It was very influential over the rest of the United States and later spread throughout the world.
